AGTF CUP 2007

The Australian Golf Teachers Federation Cup 2007 was  held at The 13th Beach Resort in Barwon Heads, Geelong, Victoria on Saturday December 1st and Sunday December 2nd.

The 13th Beach Resort has two of the most outstanding golf courses in Australia.

On Fri 30th  November there was a practice round followed by a casual evening gathering in the Clubhouse. On Saturday after play we conducted an open teaching forum and seminar for our members to try the latest in modern technology with the K-Vest.

All 27 participants enjoyed the opportunities to play the 2 courses and then have partners join them for the evening dinner  as well as appreciating the fellowship and networking opportunities available.

Frank Power was defending his 2006 open title, the recent winner of the 2007 USGTF Cup James Douris, and 4 of  Team Australian  members who competed in the 2007 WGTF Cup  were participants.

Frank won the AGTF Cup with a first day 75 followed by a magnificent second day 67!!  (Reminisc ent of his 2006 five under par total of 139).

After leading the first day with a round of 73, James Douris followed with a 76 to again finish second in the event for the second consecutive year to Frank.

Nathan Goulding, a previous AGTF Cup winner and a member of Team Australia  followed his equal fifth placing in the WGTF Cup with rounds of 78 and 79 to finish third, on a count back from Jamie Barker who also finished with a very credible 157.

The conditions for the first day were warm and pleasant but for the second day they  were  very hot and gusty and the second day scores of these players reveals their true talent.

The experience of playing in the WGTF Cup for Team Australian Senior member Des Heffernan was evident and he retained his form with rounds of 82 and 80 to win the Senior event.

The Plug family ( father Keith, wife Susan and son Nathan) all competed and Susan won the ladies event with a two day total of 191.

Our traditional evening dinner is a highlight of the Cup, with our member Ian Robertson providing the music and song and being greatly assisted by members sharing the stage with him.

The Australian Golf Teachers Federation Cup was held on November 20th and 21st at Club Pelican on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. The Club Pelican course is a Greg Norman design and by any standards a severe test of golfing ability.

A great time was had by all 36 participants with all  praising and appreciating the fellowship and networking opportunities available.

The recent winner of the 2006 USGTF Cup James Douris, and 5 times winner of the USGTF Cup and twice winner of the World Cup Individual events, Mark Harmon, were participants.

The major sponsor of the event was System Golf who was present to showcase the range of Macgregor Golf  and Tommy Armour Golf with a demonstration day that was well patronised by participants. Further details of purchase opportunities with System Golf will be released soon.
