Australian Golf Teachers Cup 2009
The 2009 Australian Golf Teachers Federation Cup was held at Gainsborough Greens Golf Course in QLD (Gold Coast) on Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th November.
Although we had a limited field participate a great time was had by all and as usual it was a great time to catch up with old friends and to forge new friendships. Networking opportunities and ideas for better teaching all make the event a very worthwhile exercise in any Golf teachers calendar – five participants in the field had completed a certification course in the previous week and enjoyed meeting some of their AGTF counterparts.
The AGTF Cup open scratch was won by Robb Tickner after a sudden death playoff against one of our newest members Trevor Osborne.
Over the two days the playing conditions were hot and the the course played as a severe test. On day one Trevor had an unbelievable first round of 69 and seemed to have the field at his mercy. Day two revealed that the course was in fact as tough as most other participants were finding it and Robb Tickner fought back to draw level with Trevor on a final two round total of 156.
A sudden death playoff ensued and members were out in support watching the event unfold. After the first sudden death hole Robb Tickner was the overall winner of the AGTF Cup
The hot conditions and difficult course setup saw only 6 players break 80 over the two day event.

SUMMARY: In the teaching seminar this year we had two great presentations fom Dr Ron Burke from Get Fit to Golf and Kevin O’Neill, The Professor of Putting.
Ron Burke gave a presentation on Golf Biomechanics and showed members how important postural and fitness matters are to all of your students and how swings fail if their is postural defect. The Get Fit to Golf biomechanical assessment and 'Chirofit' program relies on the extensive knowledge of sport biomechanics and experience of Ron Burke DCDO licensed doctor of chiropractic medicine who has 30 years in the sports medicine industry and over 10 years invested in the development of this program.
Ron founded Get Fit to Golf (GFTG) and the International College of Golf Biomechanics (ICGB) and AGTF has teamed with GFTG and ICGB to bring the latest in golf biomechanics and golf fitness training for the golf teaching professional.
Golf biomechanics is becoming an integral part of the golf teaching profession.
To keep pace with these changes the AGTF has teamed with GFTG and the ICGB.
Ron also provides Golf Pro Select (GPS), an international online directory of golf teaching professionals, associations and retailers and is searchable by name, facility or location.
Full details of the GPS directory will be forwarded to members and all AGTF members will receive a basic listing at no cost featuring your contact details, in the directory
A more detailed full page listing will also be available including all your business details like facility description, bio or staff description and business hours. This is a great way for AGTF members to promote your business, especially if you don't have your own website.
For more information on how the Get Fit to Golf program works and how to integrate it into your training please go to www.getfittogolf.com/agtf.cfm
Kevin O'Neill (The Putting Professor) demonstrated the finer points on putting to the members on his Sam Putt Lab (one of the highest level pieces of equipment made) for the measure and diagnosis of putting strokes. Kevins expertise in the field of putting was evident and his presentation gave everyone a renewed interest in Putting Instruction.
Both speakers provided members with practical application of their topics and it is obvious there will be tremendous benefit to members to enquire further of these speakers for their own personal development as well as the knowledge to pass on to their students.
A special thanks to some sponsors and contacts who assisted in the success of the event. Glenn Palmer , Gainsborough Greens Golf Course and Martin Weir (Corporate events).
